Kitchen: Before to Now

Happy Monday internet friends!

Today I decided to go back in time a bit. Though I have just started blogging I’ve made it a point to document as many projects, big and small, throughout our time here. And here we will go back to my birthday 2020.

We all know April 2020 was a very different time for all of us, and we were no different. As a backstory, Chris and I’s birthdays are only two days apart. His 4/2 and mine 4/4. So during April 2020 was one at home with just each other. No usual festivity’s of going out for cocktails and a fancy dinner. Or a little weekend trip somewhere. Nope nope.

Add on to the fact that at the time my employer decided to give us a random paid day off resulting in a 3 day weekend.

Well, with nothing to do out in public, and Chris was slammed at work so he couldn’t really hang either, I decided to repaint the kitchen on a whim. No regrets! But, that did mean that there was no amateur gourmet birthday meals that weekend. It was defiantly support any local restaurants we could and get some no contact deliveries kind of birthday meals.

On a side note, I did manage to contact one of our favorite local breweries that we always go to for at least Chris’s birthday and put together a little care package to bring Bayern to him instead of us to them. They were so generous, even lending us one of their mug club glasses for me to borrow. Shout out to some amazingly kind people to help make Chris’s day special that year!

Back to the kitchen shall we! This kitchen was painted the same baby food yellow of our bedroom that I hoped to eradicate ASAP. And by ASAP it was with us for two long years.

Let’s just say, it was two years of wearing Chris down to persuade him to paint this kitchen. Apparently it took two years, a lot of bringing it up over dinners, in front of friends, beers, coffee, it was never a far subject from my lips. Added by me having unexpected time off. Top off with a Pandemic and me saying you won’t have to lift a finger for him to FINALLY concede.

As with everything I just decide to bomb my way in, it was worth it and I got the wonderful result of him telling me, “Thank you, and yes, you were right we should have done this long ago!” Boom! All worth it!

This last picture is what our kitchen looks today. With the new light we installed again, around our birthdays this year (maybe my birthday presents always go to the kitchen now?). Here we are! Since we took down the track lighting, no regrets either, we have some patching and touchup painting to do there. At the time, I can’t think of any other projects we would want to be spending the time and money on until we do the full gut job. Fingers crossed it will be spring 2022! I am happy with the state of it. And if some of the before pictures to the now are any indication, I think I’ve just adopted the idea of, whatever you don’t 100% love, add a plant (I’m looking at you delaminating countertops).
